I know some would take a cut off wheel to it, but I'd try to avoid the heat generated by the quick cutting on the paint. And you wheel lip molding hides the edge anyways.īut might consider hack saw cutting or just taking a file the edge to remove a little and remove sharp edges. If you are careful you should be fine with your new (relatively) paint. 71 Dart with wheel opening trimĪfter I rolled mine, in places it put some extremely fine fissures in the paint on the very edge. don't really want to crack the new paint (it's about a year old now, so it will crack, I'm sure). so maybe I just need to jack up the rear end, take the wheels off, and do some grinding on those trim pieces. and I believe it's just on the aluminum trim. Yes, one side seems to be rubbing a little more than the other. which makes sense that they may stick out a bit further than normal. I run 245/60/15 on the rear of my 68 Dart with those same measurement 15x7 4.25" backspace rims, an get very slight rubber on heavy turns. has anyone rolled the lip of the wheelwell opening trim before?Īre you talking about the aluminum wheel lip molding itself it rubbing the tire? Or is it the painted metel quarter panel?ĭoes one side have more room than the other?Īre you running 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern aftermarket or shortened axles? The 5 on 4 1/2" axles push the rim out 1/4" or so. I think if I could get another 1/4" or so, I'd probably be fine. I have about 3/8" clearance from the edge of the lip to the outside sidewall of the tire. On my 71 Dart (with A-Body 8.75" rear end, 15x7 cop wheels and 225/60/15 tires), the outside of the rear tires rub a bit against the wheel opening trim when I'm going around corners (especially if I have passengers in the car).
